Cook Inc. Launches First U.S. Device For Secondary Endovascular Intervention

Bloomington, Ind. - The Zenith® Renu™ AAA Ancillary Graft from Cook Inc., the first medical device specifically designed for secondary endovascular intervention in patients having received prior endovascular repair of infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysms, has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval for sale, Cook announced today.

The device, which has successfully treated a significant number of AAA patients in Europe and Australia since 2002, will be available to U.S. physicians beginning next month.

"Our U.S. introduction of Renu confirms Cook's commitment to treating aneurysms and other life-threatening conditions along the entire aorta," said Barry Thomas, global leader of Cook's endovascular therapy productions division. "This new graft demonstrates a significant advance in medical device technology to help a particular cohort of patients."

This industry-unique device is available in two configurations, a main body extension and a converter. The Renu AAA Ancillary Graft has been engineered to treat migrations in either Dacron or ePTFE membrane-based aortic endografts, Thomas said.

Like all the Zenith AAA Endovascular Graft main body components, the Renu AAA Ancillary Graft utilizes an uncovered suprarenal stent with anchoring barbs to provide strong proximal fixation and enhanced graft-to-vessel sealing. Its lightweight, strong, shrink-resistant woven synthetic polyester graft material is the same that has been used in all Zenith endografts from Cook.

The new Renu graft system uses Cook's proven Flexor® Introducer System that features a kink-resistant, hydrophilic delivery sheath. A trigger-wire system facilitates accurate placement, controlled release and stabilization of the ancillary endograft during deployment, while the system's Captor® Hemostatic Valve inhibits blood reflux.
