(MED) has certified to the U.S. Department of Commerce's Safe Harbor Privacy program for the transfer of clinical trial data pertaining to residents of the European Union. The Safe Harbor Privacy Program, which is jointly sponsored by the Department of Commerce and the EU Commission, allows organizations to self-certify to privacy standards that are higher than those currently required in the United States. The U.S. companies that participate in the Safe Harbor Privacy Program voluntarily agree to uphold seven Safe Harbor Privacy Principles: Notice, Choice/Consent, Onward Transfer, Access and Correction, Data Integrity, Security, and Enforcement. "Personal information" is any information that can directly or indirectly lead to the identification of a living person. MED commits to uphold the privacy standards for clinical trial data pertaining to residents of the European Union, according to the Safe Harbor Privacy Principles. Adherence to these Safe Harbor Privacy Principles may be limited to the extent required by any legal, governmental, national security or public interest obligation.
